Ribbon Treatment & Materials

Heat Sealing Treatment is just one more example of our quality craftsmanship. In order to prevent the ribbon from fraying from frequent  handling, we heat seal the edges of the ribbon using either a flame or a wood burning tool.  With very delicate bows, we often follow up heat sealing with “Fray Ceck”, an anti-fraying solution. All this guarantees customer satisfaction.

Starching Bows helps them to retain their shape after frequent handling and use. Not every bow creation requires starching to retain their shape. Ribbon Sculptures require little or no starching. Starching primarily is used on bows that are hand sewn.

Directions for cleaning your Bows:  Even the most “Prissy of Princesses”  sometimes get their crowns dirty. Bows are neither machine washable nor hand washable. Treat them like delicate pieces of fine fabric. Use the very minimum of cold water to spot clean your bows, blotting the area gently . If this is unsuccessful, use only the very mildest  of detergents  to remove the dirt from  the ribbon.  It is always advisable to try a test spot on the underside of the bow  before using  it on the most visual areas.  Before blotting the area on your bow, place your fingers through the loops of the ribbon to help retain its original shape.  Let your bows dry naturally after spot cleaning. Many types of glues are used in assembling our bows. None of these glues are heat resistant and cannot tolerate being put in the dryer.

Hand Sewing our hair bows is exactly what it sounds like.  We use a needle and thread to hold the bow in place while we fold, twist, wrap, bend and manipulate the ribbon into the different bow listed on our website.  To see a list and description of our bows click here to follow the bow description link to get a better idea of the style of bow you would like.

Adhesives are almost always necessary at some point when comes to making bows.  They are used to line each different type of our barrettes.  Glues are also used to attach bows to hardware.  Hot glue is mainly used but in some case fabric glue is a better choice.  Ribbon sculptures are almost entire created using glue.

No Slip Grips are made of a foam material and attached to the inside of your snap and alligator clips.  These grips help prevent the clips from moving which in turn keeps them from falling out of your hair.  No slip grips are a great addition to bows for girls with little, fine or thin hair.  They are also useful when someone just wants that extra hold to keep their bow in place even if they have enough hair to keep it in place.  We like to think of them as clip insurance since they are an extra step taken to prevent the loss of a clip. Lining Clips

Lining Hardware is a great way to give your bow a little something extra.  Some bows are just attached to plain metal or plastic but here at Prissy Princess we will line each and every clip and barrette to match the corresponding bow and material.  It’s these little steps that help create a more beautiful bow for that special someone.  The material is measured then an adhesive is used to connect it to the inside and outside of each clip and barrette wherever it is possible.  Most alligator and snap clips are partially lined.  This means that about 2/3’s of the bottom side of the clip or barrette is left bare of material.  This is done due to the no slip grips as they hold better when placed between hair and metal.
